FLORENCIA - WORKS OF ART
Inside the Palace, thanks to the owners passion and interest for art, there are several statues and pictures.
The ones described below are only a little part of a collection which is going to increase day by day.

APOLLO AND DAFNE

XIX century copy of great quality, from the original by Bernini (Galleria Borghese, Roma).
The statue represents the nymph Dafne triyng to escape from Apollo. The god has almost
seized her, but she's beginning to transform in a laurel plant.
There is a beautiful contrast between the levigated bodies of the protagonists and the moved hair
and the hands of the nymph, captured in the moment they are getting leaves like.

ANGELICA PRISONNER OF THE DRAGON

The subject of this beautiful neoclassical statue is a myth represented by Ingres in a painting now at the Louvre Mouseum, named "Ruggero frees Angelica". The two works of art have several points in common as for example the sea landscape, or the young woman chained on the rocks. In our sculpture the dragon is already dead, lying near the lady's feet. Ruggero is not represented.

DIANA DURING A HUNTING

Oil on canvas, cm. 197-270. Fine neoclassical original.
At the centre of the painting we see the image of the hunting goddes, Diana, wearing a light dress from which shines the rose-coloured goddess'skin. She's represented taking
an arrow from her quiver. Her eyes are on the prey, while on the chariot drived by a nymph, many preys lie already. On the left there are three satyrs, zoomorfic creatures, half men and half goats. One of this is carring a hare, another one is skinning a wild pig. Another nymph is going to draw out an arrow from the animal. Near Diana stays Hermes (the ged messenger). Setting of the picture is a beautiful mountain landscape, with conifer trees and fresh waters gushing out from high glaciers.

WINGED VICTORY (NIKE UNDOING SANDAL LACES)

Marble bas-relief, cm. 140x55
Unknown artist, end of XVIII century.
The original (V century b. C.) is at the Acrpolis Museums of Athens. It was part of the Menacles Cycle, and decorated the Nike Temple on the Acropolis. The author was Callimaco, disciple of the great Fidia. The figure is completely wrapped by a light dress, which is rythmically agitated round the body. The waves created by the folds of the dress give the statue a sort of light and shade vibration.

NYMPH WASHING HERSELF

Marble, cm. 130.
It is an early XIX century sculpture, and represents a nymph washing herself. In her right hand we can see the fragment of a shell she uses to get the water.

BATTLE SCENE

Marble bas-relief, of great artistic level. It is a fragment dated XIX century, about 115 cm. This artistic work shows a battle between greek and roman soldiers. Infact we can easily recognise  a typically greek helmet and roman swords, together with bigae hauled by horses.
